Energy Union is a policy framework proposed by the European Commission based on long-established objectives of EU energy policy, namely security of supply, sustainability and competitiveness. The Energy Union aims at furthering integration and coordination of Member States on five dimensions: * Energy security, solidarity and trust; * the internal energy market; * energy efficiency as a contribution to the moderation of energy demand; * decarbonisation of the economy; and * research, innovation and competitiveness. The implementation of the Energy Union strategy with a forward looking climate change policy was launched as one of the political priorities of the Juncker Commission in February 2015. It will allow a free flow of energy across borders and a secure supply in every EU country through one unique internal energy market.
