The European External Action Service (EEAS) is the EU’s “diplomatic service“ with the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy (currently Federica Mogherini) at the top of its organisational structure. It is important when the EU aims to speak or act as one unified actor on the global stage and crucial for external policy on human rights, as diplomatic approaches and dialogue are vital instruments for the EU in this field.
