The International Court of Justice is the main judicial organ of the United Nations with French and English as official languages. Composed by 15 judges, the Court’s function is to settle, in accordance with international law, legal disputes submitted to it by States and to give United Nations' organs and agencies advisory opinions on legal questions. The jurisdiction of the Court in contentious proceedings is based on the consent of the States to which it is open.
