Third energy package

The third energy package of the EU is the latest round of energy market legislation that covers five main ares:

  • unbundling energy suppliers from network operators;
  • strengthening the independence of regulators;
  • establishing the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER);
  • cross-border cooperation between transmission system operators and the creation of European Networks for Transmision System Operators;
  • increased transparency in retail markets to benefit consumers.
