The European Commission is the EU's politically independent executive arm. It is alone responsible for initiating proposals for new European legislation, and it implements the decisions of the European Parliament and the Council of the EU. It consists of a team or 'College' of Commissioners, 1 from each EU country and their president is Jean-Claude Juncker.
It operates through Directorates-General that are assigned to different fields of expertise, such as Climate Action (DG Climate Action) and Energy (DG Energy).
